- Uploading to a website and want the smallest file at good quality? WebP is usually your best bet.
- Need maximum compatibility with older software, printers, or platforms that don't support WebP? JPG is still the safest universal choice.
- Already have a PNG with a background you don't need transparent anymore? Converting to JPG or WebP will shrink the file significantly.
Things to Know
- PNG is the only one of the three that supports transparency — converting a JPG or WebP to PNG can't restore transparency that was never there to begin with.

Every conversion here runs at maximum quality, so any loss is minimal. The one real exception: converting a JPG (which never had transparency) to PNG won't add transparency that wasn't there — conversion changes the file format, not what's actually in the image.
